GENEVE

To begin this tour of Lake Geneva, a stage is essential: GENEVA.

Esthétique Genève - Lac de Genève - Genève

Small nuance, for Genevans, the lake is called Lake Geneva! Arriving by road, or by boat from the French banks, you can see, frozen on the horizon, the Geneva water jet, which guards the city like a lighthouse. With several hundred thousand inhabitants, Geneva is the Swiss Romanesque city par excellence (in competition with Lausanne). Luxurious buildings where the names of famous banks, monetary funds, jewelers and watchmakers are displayed high up. The UN headquarters hosts countless diplomats and vintage cars in its international lands. But Geneva is also a culturally explosive city, with writers such as Nicolas Bouvier (L'Usage du monde et Chroniques Japones), it is the city of Calvin who reformed the Catholic religion, it is also welcoming shores and where festivals follow one another over the summer. At the foot of the ramparts of the old town is the Grand Theater district of Geneva, where several modern but still high-quality opera works are performed annually. There is also the park where the literature pavilion of the University of Geneva resides, as well as the Reformers' Wall, which was the scene of great changes and evolutions in Catholic thought. By climbing these ramparts, the old town is offered to us and is absolutely to be discovered, especially at night through the dim lights of the lampposts. Stairs lead you between steep alleys, alongside churches, art galleries and rare book shops. A passage between two narrow houses leads to frescoes representing the tributaries of Lake Geneva, a beautiful sight in the middle of the night. Visiting major cities such as Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux or Thonon-les-Bains offers visitors multiple facets of the quality of life around Lake Geneva…

From a unique and exceptional natural environment, natural mineral water is an asset. Evian® natural mineral water comes from the Gavot plateau impluvium. It is an infiltration area located at an altitude of 1000 meters which is protected over 35 km2 from any human pollution. Rain and snow are slowly filtered through the millennial glacial sands, protected by a thick moraine deposited by glaciers. Thus naturally protected, it begins a journey of more than fifteen years, during which water is filtered through the alpine rocks and acquires on contact its unique purity. Sheltered from this hydrogeological system which is over 30,000 years old, the water therefore evolves in a microbiologically healthy environment, before emerging 800 meters below in Évian-les-Bains, on the shores of Lake Geneva. With in the foreground a casino and busy restaurants in the evening, Évian is also the city of the Lumière brothers, creators of cinema in the 19th century. The Palais Lumière testifies to their importance and offers various art exhibitions throughout the year.
